Hello and welcome to our city. So in a paragraph how would you describe the piece you are going to show us on Pocket
It’s a work where I decided to pay especial attention to collaboration. Not just in the dance scene
but in life in general. While the Others Go Wild is a project about the people that make it happen.
And it is as ambiguous as the main subject suggests. I like to think of it as an onion, which people
can peel as much as they want, or as much as they can.
(i was in a rehearsal and i was struck with the multicultural and multicountry team Joao
Cidade managed to gather. ) So i want to ask if it is a personal taste or a nececity working
with a diferent team each time and how is it affecting each piece working with ppl from
diferent backrounds and cultures ?
Unless it’s a very specific work that needs to be done with people from a specific background,
that is never a reason I base my selection on. I select the performers I want to work with based on
what they bring to the table, regardless of their background.
Where can we see you more of your work/performances etc.?
Right now you can see the 3rd version of While the Others Go Wild in Thessaloniki, on the 12th of
Sep as part of Pocket Dance Festival. Next year I’ll be premiering a new work in collaboration with the musician Ferdinand Breil in Berlin
and will also be starting the creation of another work in collaboration with the choreographer and
dancer Angelo Petracca. To check the dates and places of performances you can use this link: https://joaocidade.com/
